I am Jeff Moji

I am an engineer, an information technology consultant and a blogger. I am currently the managing director of an information technology and financial management consulting company, Blue Phakwe Consulting.

When COVID-19 and its complications hit us, I looked at ways to improve my health, and this has caused me to research and blog about health and wellness since 2020 on my other website, hurlth.com.

I am now pivoting to blogging mainly about technology on this website. My blogs will hopefully expose me to a vast and lively community of new friends and associates who will tag along as I dissect topics of mutual interest.

My Journey

Interesting Beginnings

I was born and raised in Soweto, Johannesburg, South Africa. By coincidence, I graduated from Sekano Ntoane High School, the same high school where the South African President, Cyril Ramaphosa, graduated, albeit many years ahead of me.

Incidentally, I later graduated from Syracuse University in New York, USA, the same university where USA President, Joe Biden, graduated.

Disclaimer: The coincidence ends there. I have neither the desire nor the capability to be the president of any country 🙂

My Professional Career

My career started in South Africa as an engineering draughtsman in the mining industry and an engineering technician in the home appliance design and manufacturing industry.

I later went to the USA and obtained a mechanical engineering degree at Syracuse University, New York, USA. I then continued at Syracuse and took graduate courses for two years in manufacturing engineering, specializing in design-for-manufacturing techniques. This is where I was introduced to artificial intelligence expert systems and robotics.

In the USA, I worked as an engineer and an information technology specialist in the hardboard manufacturing industry in Laurel, Mississippi, and later in the valve manufacturing industry in New York City and Alexandria, Louisiana. I supported the value chain of designs to market industrial valves for commercial and nuclear applications. I coordinated cross-functional teams on information technology projects that led to the development of product data management across disparate international groups of the same enterprise. One such project included sales teams from Germany, the USA, Canada, Brazil, Italy, Japan, China, and the United Kingdom.

Upon my return to South Africa, I concentrated on information technology and operated in the private and public sectors. I occupied positions as an IT project manager in the telecommunication industry, an information technology manager in the mining sector, a chief information officer (CIO), and a technical advisor and consultant.

My blogs on this site will be based on the ever-evolving technology space. I will blog about different technology areas to offer advice on the lessons I have learned throughout my career and on new trends, best practices, and more. With technology constantly changing, I will be doing a lot of research on different areas, including but not limited to cloud computing, cybersecurity, consumer and industrial Internet of Things (IoT), artificial intelligence (AI), gaming, robotics, and others. I also intend to write about the application of technology in the health environment later.

At a Personal Level ...

I Love Swimming

From 2015 until 2020, I used to swim in a 50-meter indoor pool. At the peak of my swimming, I did 40 laps at a reasonable pace. When COVID-19 hit us, the pool was temporarily closed, and I stopped. I plan to slowly get back to swimming using the Speedo programs from the internet. They guide you from a starter to an intermediate to an advanced swimmer.

My Relationship With Food

As I grow older, I need energy from healthy food sources to keep me active throughout the day. I need nutrients to repair my body. I also need a healthy diet to help prevent diet-related illnesses that include but are not limited to some cancers, heart attack, stroke, and easily broken bones. One of my exciting food blogs on my other website is a series of blogs summarising a book on superfoods called SuperFoods HealhStyle.

I Get Regular Massage Therapy

Massage is usually considered part of integrative medicine. My massage therapist complements my biokineticists’ treatment for my sore back. Regular therapy helps reduce stress, increase relaxation, diminish muscle soreness and tension, improve circulation, energy and alertness, lower blood pressure, and improve immune function.
